Prof. Yan Z. Voloshin
Expertise: coordination chemistry, synthesis of oximato-based cage complexes, Mössbauer spectroscopy
Role: 1) Development of synthetic methods for tris-dioximate iron and cobalt(II) chlathrochelate complexes with different ribbed and apical substituents, determination of their analytical and spectral properties and molecular and crystal structure; 2) supervision of the INEOS RAS group.
Nesmeyanov Institute of Organoelement Compounds (INEOS RAS) is one of the leading institute in Russia in the field of coordination and macrocyclic chemistry. Novel general methods of synthesis of the apical- and ribbed-functionalized cage complexes with encapsulated transition metal ions were worked out by INEOS RAS group. In this group, led by Prof. Y.Z. Voloshin, the factors influencing the molecular and supramolecular clathrochelate structure were also determined and the kinetics and mechanisms of template synthesis and decomposition of the macrobicyclic complexes (in solution and in gas phase) were studied. The potential application of these compounds was investigated and it was found recently, that the cobalt clathrochelates possess electrocatalytic activity in hydrogen-producing systems; iron(II)-containing analogs have been recognized as efficient inhibitors of the RNA polymerase.
The expertise in synthesis, structure-function relationship and properties of these compounds resulted in active collaboration with universities of Kiev, Chişinăuand Olsztyn and joint international grants.
